About

Most people want to live more sustainably, or organize their lives better, or eat better, or look into that little something they heard about that may or may not affect their child’s health, or their love life, or their pet’s life, or their home, or their friends, or the environment, or, or, or…

You get the idea.

They also want a home they love, less stress in their lives, to travel, and to spend more time doing things that matter with people that matter.

Yeah, me too.

About Awesome

My name is Siouxie (pronounced Susie).

Yep. That pretty much sums up my world when it comes to awesome.

It started a few years ago when I ended up with some time on my hands and an urgency to learn a lot about how to live my life differently. I started researching things like how to eliminate toxins in my diet, my home, and my life.

And from that original string of research came a wealth of knowledge and inspiration that went far beyond just making myself well.

Through endless hours of researching, trying stuff out for myself, using products and making things that have made my life awesome, I have come up with a pretty extensive list of awesomeness.

I started sharing some of these on Facebook, and friends started asking me for more info on this or that. Clearly, I needed a wider canvas to properly convey everything I wanted to share.

I created this blog as a way of fulfilling that.

Here you’ll find posts on how I’m making my home less toxic, how I rethunk my whole kitchen and the full remodel with non-toxic everything, my living room makeover where I even built an exquisitely cozy reading nook, how I hand painted my floors to bring a little European goodness into my home, some pretty yummy recipes that are actually healthy and healing, how I hooked up with my husband so he could get a green card (that was over 25 years ago), randomly awesome life hacks, my travel adventures to some pretty amazing places, and, and, and…

I’ll even share how I traveled to Europe for two months with nothing but a carry-on.

Yep. It’s all here.

I didn’t come up with all this awesomeness on my own;  there’s so much awesome out there that all I did was try to catalog some of it and do stuff with it.

Wherever relevant, I’ve also included links and sources to any blogs, posts, and resources that inspired or assisted me in creating whatever it is that my post is about. You’ll also find bits of awesome that I’ve stumbled across and were just too good not to share.

A last bit about me:

I already mentioned my husband, and how he tried to marry me to get a green card. That’s a pretty great love story in itself. We’ve since raised 4 kids who’ve grown into highly capable, contributing adults. And we must have done something right because they are all pretty well-grounded and successful in their own right.

Being raised an only child, I wanted a large family. Now we’ve not only got our kids, but their significant others, AND three adorably yummy grandchildren. We also happen to have our parents within a couple of miles in either direction. So, family events are a big, rowdy affair, which is just the way I like it.

As the kids grew and pursued their own dreams and goals, we needed something to fill the quiet, so we did what most empty nesters do: we got a dog (Spike). But he needed a companion, so we got him a cat named Boots. Now our house feels a bit more like home.

The world needs more awesome. This is my contribution to that.

I invite you to join me on this journey.
